This Town Council has five committees and their responsibilities are listed below: Agendas and Minutes for these committees can be found on this website (please use the buttons above). Agendas are also published on the public notice boards. PLANNING APPLICATIONS COMMITTEEClick here to go to the Minutes / Agendas PageThis committee has delegated authority to make recommendations to Sedgemoor District Council on all planning applications affecting Burnham on Sea and Highbridge. If the recommendation of this Council coincides with that of the District, the case officer can deal with the matter under delegated authority. (There is an exception where the application is classed as major development). If there is a difference of opinion, the application will be put to the District's Development Control committee where a final decision will be made.The Town Council committee meets to determine the application within twenty-one days of receipt, which in practise means on a two weekly basis, in order that our views can be put in writing to Development Control if necessary. Click here to go to the Minutes / Agendas Page The Town Improvements Committee meets as and when needed, usually once a month at the Chairman's discretion. Its main function is to consider ideas for projects for the Towns to regenerate and promote general improvement in addition to those projects funded by the District and County Councils. The Town bandstand and the water feature in the Town centre are two examples of this. Its main function is to maintain all the Town Councils property, ensuring the well being of staff and members, by providing suitable premises to meet and work. They are responsible for three cemeteries in Burnham Road Highbridge, Westfield Road Burnham on Sea and Brent Road Berrow. Its main purpose is to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of burials and maintaining the graves and surrounding grounds. Health and safety for both employees and the public has a high priority for the committee and some considerable time is taken up on this important issue. The range of issues is quite varied and also covers staffing matters. This committee is also responsible for all financial matters, including preparing a budget for the annual precept from Sedgemoor District Council. It usually meets once a month as and when necessary. Cllr Chris Williams - Chairman Other OrganisationsThe Town Council appoints Councillors to act as representatives to organisations and groups within the town. Councillors' involvement as representatives in the local community develops greater understanding within the Council of the role of these organisations and groups. Representatives are nominated either at the request of a particular organisation/group or, if core funding has been granted, at the request of the Town Council.
