***Press Release*** HIGHBRIDGE CLOCK

At the full Council meeting on 1 February, members voted in favour to trying to secure funding to purchase a new three-faced clock, to be sited in Jubilee Gardens.

In coming to this decision, members recognised that it was financially unviable to repair the existing clock works because of the poor condition of the concrete pillar on which it stands.  Whilst it is possible to make repairs to the pillar, there is no guarantee that similar problems will not re-occur.

The Town Clerk has now been instructed to pursue all avenues of funding for a new clock, and will be writing to all those residents who have already given money for the restoration of the existing clock.

Anyone wishing to make a donation towards a new clock should write to the Town Clerk at the Council offices in Jaycroft Road.  All donors may rest  assured that all money donated will be used for the clock and nothing else, and that if the fund is oversubscribed, any monies not required will be ring-fenced for the future maintenance of the clock.

It has also been decided that it would be appropriate to dedicate the new clock for the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the same way as the original clock was dedicated to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
