Burnham Evolution is a project led by the Town Council with support from Sedgemoor District Council, the local business community and Litter Free Somerset. The aim is to revitalise the town by providing enhancements to the Esplanade to make the seafront more attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors. The project will also include the renovation of the Princess Theatre which is a heavily used community space but needs to be modernised and freshened up to make it a more appealing facility. Burnham residents will benefit from an increase in the number of people who spend time and money in the town as there will be more to see and do. We also hope that these improvements will restore a sense of civic pride in the community.
The Town Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a business plan in order to apply for grants from the Coastal Community and Hinkley funds. This will be a significant investment to enhance the town and make it a better place to live, work and visit.
Burnham Evolution will consist of a number of mini-projects in different areas of the town and we will have been asking residents to tell us their views on these ideas. Public consultations took place last weekend at the Farmers Market and the Eat Festival. We were delighted that dozens of people stopped to comment on these proposals.
