This year marks the 30th Anniversary for the twin towns of Fritzlar in Germany with Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge. Members of the society travelled to Fritzlar in July 2019 where they spent four days being home hosted by their German friends, who will in turn visit Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge next summer.
During the visit, the Burgermeister of Fritzlar, Hartmut Spogat and the Mayor of Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge, Cllr Andy Brewer, exchanged gifts to celebrate the Anniversary. Also, a Gindo Bobao tree was planted by the Grey Tower. This tree represents friendship because of the shape of it’s leaf.
Ladies of the Highbridge U3A made a wall hanging that was presented to the Fritzlar Partnershaft on the Farewell evening.
Burnham’s U3A Concert Party also attended and gave some superb performances of songs in the Market Square in Fritzlar.
Members of the Twinning Society are very much looking forward to welcoming the Partnershaft to our town’s next summer and have already started to plan the visit.
